The Education (School Premises) Regulations 1999 were implemented in order to set the minimum requirements for health and safety in schools. These regulations cover the requirements for temperature, WC facilities, lighting, and ventilation. These are operated alongside The Workplace, (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992, which covers the required conditions such as the availability of drinking water, the temperature, the maintenance of the building and equipment, ventilation, and first aid.
Health and safety in schools should not be taken lightly; regulations and acts are there for a reason and ensure the safety of children and employees. The acts and regulations are a requirement by law and no school should be operating without these being adhered to.
