Stop you idiot!
Guest post
Probably not the way to address a friend you haven’t seen for a while – but is it the correct way to stop a workmate from doing something unsafe?
Positives: –
1. It is a quick statement
2. Straight to the point
3. Will certainly get their attention
4. May get the person to stop
5. Others will likely see and learn from the action
Negatives: –
1. Could be seen as aggressive
2. May startle or scare them into making the situation more dangerous
3. Some might ignore such aggression
4. There are much better ways to address a dangerous situation.
5. They may not realise that they are the idiot you are addressing
Personalities play a huge role in how we address situations. However, there isn’t always time to assess someone’s introvert or extrovert behaviours. The best way to play safe is probably be calm and think the person didn’t know the safer option (without judgement) and you are there to help AND THAT IS ALL. If you think such positive thoughts as you approach the situation the outcome will have a much higher chance of being positive.
