Best Practice Guidelines for the Forestry Sector
Forestry Sector Guide to Safety 2013/14 – Released
Safe transport of logs is important to New Zealand loggers, drivers and the forest industry in general. Therefore, it is with great pleasure that Pro-Visual Publishing announces this year’s release of the Forestry Sector Guide to Safety. In collaboration with the Log Transport Safety Council, Pro-Visual releases this guide free-of-charge to managers and contractors within the forestry sector right across New Zealand. The central focus of this year’s guide is on the Best Practice Guidelines for the securing of logs for transport. This guideline establishes a new level of workplace best practice in the securing of logs on truck and trailer units and includes the Loading Code of Practice issued by the New Zealand Transport Agency.
Responsibility and the enforcement of safety are important. The driver, and any other person loading the vehicle, commits an offence if they fail to ensure that the load, or any part of that load on the truck or trailer, is secured and contained such that it cannot fall or escape from the vehicle. The truck driver is the person with overall responsibility for the way the load is positioned and secured.
Loading requirements and procedures of restraining the load are presented as a quick reference guide for drivers and contractors within the industry. How the load securing equipment is fitted on the vehicle needs to meet requirements for the driver’s use. For ease of use this guide has been written in a way that is easy to follow, and the Loading Code of Practice items are integrated with safe practice guidelines, as provided by the Log Transport Safety Council.
